The Seller has been coming to the Sumpter area since 1986 for hunting and the large and renowned Flea Markets that are held 3 times a year in community of Sumpter. In the summer of 2005, the Seller brought his wife to the area and she immediately fell in love with the mountains, streams and lakes. They bought a house and stayed. In July of 2007 the Gold Post Country Store came up for sale and they bought it. For them it was a dream come true. They would not be selling if it weren t for the Sellers wife s health .her legs and back can no longer handle the daily grind of owning a general store. This Gold Post is a typical general store that sells beer, wine, food of all kinds, clothing, shoes and boots, automotive items, fishing tackle, baits and lures and sells wood cutting permits; has a video & CD section and the ONLY liquor store within 26 miles. Since hunting (deer and elk) is a major activity in the area, they sell hunting licenses and tags, but the part that draws the hunter to this shop is that the Sellers have a large cooler in the back room that the hunters can hang their game until they return home. Snowmobiling is also one of the major draws to the area. There is over 340 miles of groomed snowmobile runs as well as ungroomed areas. Sumpter has a rich and wonderful history. It was a major Gold mining community up until 1956 when all dredge mining stopped. However, visitors still pan for gold and there is still gold to be had. With the price of gold what it is today, there is rumors that some of the owner of the larger mines in the area will start up their operation in the near future. This area is virtually Gods Country for outdoor men and women; what with hunting, fishing, hiking, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, camping and gold mining abounding all around.
Expansion Potential: The major areas for growth are adding a web site and if the city has its way, keeping the winter hwy open to the major ski area at Anthony Lakes.
Competition & Market Info: Due to the size of Sumpter, there is no competition for 30 miles, which is Baker City.
Reasons for Sale: The Sellers wife has health issues and cannot contiue to operate the store.
Support & Training: The sellers have a home 3 blocks from the store and are willing to help the new purchasers get established for up to 3 months and by phone for even a longer period.
Other Assets: Real Estate: $235,000
Property Type: Freehold
Premises Details: The Building is 3,000 sq. ft. and is located right on Hwy #7 in Baker county, OR. It has been the General Store and the main place to shop for over 40 years. There is plenty of parking and the equipment is kept in excellent conditions...They just put new compressors in both banks of coolers. It is an older building but is well taken care of.
